Strata Florida is the site of a former Cistercian monastery which was of immense importance to Wales during the Middle Ages.

The conserved ruins of its church and part of the cloisters are in the care of Cadw, the Welsh Government’s heritage agency, and can be visited by the public. It is also the location of the Strata Florida Project, carried out by the University of Wales Trinity St David under the direction of Professor David Austin.

For the project, which was co-ordinated by consultant Chris Delaney, we produced a set of 12 interpretive panels. Most of the panels were installed on painted steel lecterns with oak frames, but where the panels were on Forestry land they were in wooden frameworks.

The ruins lie just to the east of the village of Pontrhydfendigaid, near Tregaron in Ceredigion, on the western edge of the Cambrian Mountains in mid Wales. Post code: SY25 6ES. OS grid reference: SN 7467 6569.
